I'm thinking about upgrading my setup for better gaming performance and I'm on an AM4 platform with a 5600 processor. Would it be better for me to upgrade to a 5700X3D or to invest in an AM5 motherboard instead? What's the best route considering budget and performance? Thanks!

If your budget allows, I’d say go for AM5. The 5700X3D is pretty pricey right now, usually over $300, and can be hard to find. For around $450, you could pick up an AM5 motherboard along with some DDR5 RAM and either a 7600X or 9600X, which would give you a better platform for future upgrades.
But is the 7600 really worth that upgrade cost? I've seen some decent deals on the i5-13400F which might give a good performance boost without needing new RAM.
If you can find a used 5800X3D, that's definitely a solid upgrade since it’s not likely to drop much more in price. The 5700X3D seems pretty expensive. Just remember to do your research before purchasing used components!
Around here, the prices for the 5700X3D and 7700X are really close. Have you checked benchmarks between them? I heard the 7700X doesn’t perform that much better.
Honestly, you'd probably be better off waiting. Why spend a ton on a CPU that's close to end of life? Stick with the 5600 until you can afford a B650 motherboard and a good AM5 chip. It would be a more future-proof option.
That's good to know! I found the 5700X3D for £200 here in the UK. Do you think that's worth it?
