Should I stick with AM4 or upgrade to AM5 for my new motherboard?

I've been dealing with a broken motherboard from a pre-built Lenovo for a couple of years now, and I'm finally rebuilding the whole thing. The original motherboard failed due to a known issue about six months after purchase, leaving me with a half-working PC. Now that I need to swap out the case (since Lenovo doesn't allow upgrades) and replace the motherboard, I'm faced with a decision: my current CPU is from the 5000 series, which only works with AM4 motherboards. With AM5 now on the market, I have to decide whether to go for an AM4 motherboard and save some money or invest in an AM5 to future-proof the system, knowing I might want to upgrade my CPU later. What would you recommend?

I'd say go for AM5 if you can afford it. It'll offer you more longevity and better options for CPU upgrades later on.

It really depends on your CPU and RAM setup, plus your budget. If you're running a Ryzen 7 5000 series now, an AM4 board should be fine until you’re ready to upgrade. It's cost-effective to just get that new AM4 board and then upgrade in a couple of years when something like AM6 comes out.

Makes sense! Plus, the case can roll over to your next build.
