Should I Stick with My 1440p 60Hz Monitor or Switch to a 1080p High Refresh Rate?

I'm thinking about upgrading my monitor setup. Right now, I have a 27-inch 4K monitor running at 60Hz, but my PC (with an R5 5600 and a 3060ti) struggles to run games at 4K. I like the size of my current monitor, but I'm torn between continuing with this one at 1440p 60Hz or replacing it with a 1080p monitor that offers a refresh rate of 144-180Hz. What do you think would be the better choice for gaming performance?

In New Zealand, you can get the Xiaomi G27qi for about 165 USD, which is a solid option. If you're looking at budget-friendly models, consider brands like Sansui as well—they’ve got good monitors and often have coupons for discounts.

That sounds great, I’m in NZ too! So I guess it’s about the same price.

Definitely aim for a 1440p monitor with 144Hz refresh rate—it's the sweet spot for gaming right now! For around $200, you can get excellent deals during sales, like the Acer Nitro which I’m really enjoying. Just make sure to look for one that has good reviews!

I’m wary of VA panels though, so I'm not interested in that.

I suggest going for a 1440p monitor that offers a refresh rate around 144-180Hz. I have a similar setup with an R5 5600 and RX6600, and it's been great for AAA gaming. You shouldn’t need 4K if your PC can’t handle it, but 1440p at a higher refresh rate will make a noticeable difference in gameplay.

What games do you primarily play? That might help determine which monitor suits you better.

I usually play games like BF6, CS2, DayZ, and some others like AOE2 and modded Minecraft.

If you lower the resolution on your 4K monitor, you might be able to boost the refresh rate, but it sounds like your current model is locked at 60Hz. It's worth checking that before making a decision!

Unfortunately, it's stuck at 60Hz.
