Should I switch out my CPU cooler or just add more case fans?

I recently built a new gaming PC and I'm wondering about my cooling options. Here are my components: I'm using an MSI MAG FORGE 320R AIRFLOW case, an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor, an MSI MB PRO B650M-B motherboard, and a Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 Plus cooler. While gaming on Monster Hunter at 2K max settings, my CPU temp peaks at around 85-86°C, but my idle temperatures are quite high—between 50-55°C and sometimes hitting 60°C. Should I consider replacing my CPU cooler, or would adding exhaust fans to the top of my case be a better solution?

Try removing some of the case panels—sides, front, and top—and see if your temps drop. If they do, it’s a sign you need more fans for better airflow. Adding exhaust fans could definitely help circulate air better in your case!

What do you think about returning the CPU cooler instead?

First thing to check is if you removed the protective plastic film from your cooler; it’s a common oversight. If that's not the issue, your temperatures aren’t too far off for that setup. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D does run hot, especially with that 3D vCache. You might want to try undervolting; starting with a negative offset of -10mV could help improve temps without sacrificing stability. I'm using OCCT to check stability—might be worth it for you too!

Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely give that a shot!
