Hey everyone, I could really use your input. I've been in an 8-week coding bootcamp and I'm currently in week 6. While I understand the material, I tend to struggle with explaining concepts during one-on-one discussions with my instructor, which makes me nervous. Lately, he's been somewhat patronizing, even suggesting today that I shouldn't continue the course because I'm struggling. The program coordinator has also advised me to consider a slower-paced course and offered to help me find an alternative. However, I really enjoy this bootcamp and want to see it through, even if placements aren't guaranteed. I know my anxiety affects my communication, which is why I've been hesitant to ask more questions. The final week involves a group project which I'm nervous about, but I feel capable when coding independently. Any advice on whether I should stick it out or explore other options?

You might as well stick with it since you're already this far along. It’s great that you’re able to learn on your own, too. Just remember, 8 weeks isn’t a lot of time to grasp everything. There's a lot more you can learn if you're persistent!
If this is more of a hobby for you and you’re not super worried about placements, consider slowing down and taking a different route that lets you really digest what you're learning. Sometimes less haste leads to better understanding in the long run!
Kudos for making it to week 6 without prior experience! If you're enjoying it, keep going! But honestly, if you need to backtrack and start with some online resources later, that's okay too. Just find the pace that works for you!
It sounds like your main challenge is related to communication rather than coding itself. Being able to express your ideas is super important in dev work. While I can't say whether you should stay or leave the bootcamp, pursuing a communication class could really help boost your confidence and skills. It might change how you feel during those one-on-ones too!
I never thought about that! I’ll definitely check into some communication classes.
Honestly, 8 weeks is a super short time to learn coding from scratch. If you're struggling this much and your instructor and advisor are suggesting you consider other options, it might be worth thinking about a different approach. You don't want to hold your group back, but at the same time, if you really want to finish, give it your best shot! Just make sure it doesn't affect your mental health too much.
Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it. I think I might try to finish just to see how it goes.
Good point! I think I’ll try to learn as much as I can, both in and outside of class.
