Should I Uninstall Old Drivers When Upgrading My GPU from 2060 to 3070?

I'm planning to upgrade my graphics card from a 2060 to a 3070 next week. Do I need to uninstall the old drivers before I swap them out, or can I just install the new GPU and let it work its magic? I've heard about DDU, but I'm not sure if it's necessary for this type of upgrade. What do you think?

I prefer to download the Nvidia app and do a clean installation every time I swap my graphics cards. While it might be overkill for similar models, it ensures everything's set up correctly. If you're switching from AMD to Nvidia, definitely run DDU in safe mode to clean out the old drivers.

Using DDU isn't usually required when moving from a 2xxx series to a 3xxx series GPU. If you're having issues after the upgrade, then it's a good idea, but most of the time, switching cards works seamlessly without it.

You typically don't need to uninstall the old drivers since the 2060 and 3070 use the same driver. Just plug in the new card, boot up Windows, and the driver will automatically load—it only takes a few seconds and might cause the screen to flicker once or twice.

While it's not necessary to use DDU for a simple swap from a 2060 to a 3070, it can be a quick way to clear out leftover files and registry entries. The full process is usually: download the new drivers, run DDU in safe mode, reboot, install the new drivers, and then another reboot to finalize everything. But honestly, for most users, just swapping the cards will work just fine.
