Should I Upgrade from 2x8GB to 4x8GB RAM for Gaming?

I'm currently using a 2x8GB setup with 4400MHz RAM (Patriot Viper Steel) on my GIAGBYTE Z690 Gaming X motherboard. I've come across a 4x8GB kit (Corsair Vengeance LPX @ 3200MHz) and I'm considering swapping them out. I'm curious if this change would yield any performance benefits, especially since I primarily play games like EU5. Would it make a difference in my gaming experience?

It's all about your capacity needs. If you don't really need more RAM, then there's not much point in switching. Just ensure you check your RAM usage in games to see if you're hitting the limit.

What do you mean by capacity needs?

For EU5, you might want 32GB target since the recommended is 32GB. Just a heads up that 2x16GB is typically better than 4x8GB.

Mixing different types of RAM can cause issues, so if you do go for the 4x8GB, make sure they're similar to your current ones. Also, be aware that most DDR4 configurations only benefit up to a dual-channel setup; check your motherboard’s specs to confirm if it can handle 4 sticks effectively.

Honestly, avoid getting the 4 sticks unless they're all the same type. Stability can become a hassle, and you might end up needing to tweak a lot of settings just to keep everything running smoothly. I recommend sticking with your current setup or considering a 2x16GB kit instead.

Thanks for the advice.

Actually, DDR4 generally works fine with 4 sticks; just be cautious with your setup.

If you're not using more than 16GB of RAM in your current games, it probably isn't worth the swap. But if you are approaching that limit, going for the 4x8GB could help, especially in RAM-intensive games.
