I'm currently using a 7800x3D and really enjoy it. My little cousin is building a PC, and I'm considering selling him my motherboard and RAM for a good price. This got me thinking about upgrading my CPU as well. I mainly game and do some college homework, but nothing too intensive like video editing. I'm curious if upgrading to the 9800x3D is worth it? I play a variety of games including God of War, Spider-Man, COD, and Roblox, but I mainly focus on the bigger titles.

If you're looking for a good excuse to upgrade, selling to your cousin is a win-win. However, if you focus mostly on bigger titles and are satisfied with your current performance, it might be better to hold off. You can get the 9800X3D for your setup, but it might not give you a huge performance jump for the price.
From a performance viewpoint, switching to the 7700X could give you a decent boost of around 10-15%, but jumping from the 7800X3D to the 9800X3D is just about a 5% difference. Not really that groundbreaking, just a slight clock speed increase.
No but really, unless you plan to game at 1080p, you're looking at maybe a 2% increase in performance if that. At 1440p or 4K, the difference would be almost negligible.
Honestly, there's not much reason to upgrade from the 7800x3D to the 9800x3D. You might only see about a 10% performance boost in games, which isn't significant for most gamers.
I just upgraded from the 7800X3D to the 9800X3D with a 7900XT and saw a slight FPS increase at 1440p, but if it were just for myself, probably wouldn't have done it. But it's a nice upgrade for others in the family who might benefit from it more.
If you're rocking an enthusiast GPU like a 4090 or 5090, then it might be worth considering the upgrade for the added speed. But otherwise, stick with what you have.
I do want to grab a better GPU for GTA 6 when it drops, so maybe that's worth holding out for.
