I'm considering treating myself for my birthday and have locked in an order for an upgrade from my current AMD 5600x to a 9600x. I spend over 10 hours a day on my computer doing web development, often running a virtual machine, multiple instances of VSCode, a DB client, and a couple of Chrome profiles with dozens of tabs open. I don't have major complaints about my current setup, but I've been flirting with the idea of better performance, especially since I'm also thinking about upgrading to 64GB of RAM for smoother multitasking without closing tabs. My current specs are: ROG STRIX motherboard, 32GB DDR4 RAM, and a 6600XT GPU. My cart includes the 9600x, 64GB of Crucial DDR5, a new ASUS TUF motherboard with plenty of M.2 slots, and a decent cooler. I'm just looking for some opinions before finalizing everything!

I run a 9600x and love it! It's quite powerful for video editing and even during CPU-intensive tasks, I barely hit 50% usage. My rendering times have improved significantly. If you're doing a lot of multitasking and video work, the upgrade will probably serve you well.
I've been in a similar boat! While the 5600x is still solid, switching to the 9600x offers a notable performance boost, especially with its larger L2 cache. If you can swing the cost difference, I'd say go for it! Plus, with PCIe 5.0 on that new motherboard, you're future-proofing your setup a bit more.
If your desktop runs smoothly and you're not facing any long compile or render times, upgrading might not be necessary. You could get better value by investing in a more powerful GPU instead. Also, think about the fact that another CPU generation with the same socket may come out soon, so going with an upgrade now could limit future options. A better monitor could also enhance your experience more than a CPU upgrade would.
