Should I Upgrade from DDR4 to DDR5 for a CPU Boost?

I'm currently using a Kingston DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) at 3200MHz with an Intel i7 8700. I'm considering selling my DDR4 setup to buy a Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR5. My goal is to upgrade my CPU to either a Ryzen 7800X3D or a 9800X3D, as I want to make a significant performance leap but feel limited by my DDR4 setup. Is this upgrade worth it?

Absolutely, upgrading from the i7 8700 to either the 7800X3D or the 9800X3D will be a massive performance boost. Plus, to make use of those CPUs, DDR5 is a must.

If you can sell your DDR4 without spending extra and the DDR5 is at least 6000MHz with a CAS latency of 36 or lower, then go for it! 32GB of RAM is more than enough for most tasks, assuming that's what you’ll have after the downgrade.

32GB is sufficient for nearly all games right now. I would say make the switch! The games that actually need more RAM won't perform well on an i7 8700 anyway. Just remember to aim for DDR5-6000 in the 30 to 36 CAS range for optimal performance.

I’m in the same boat! Looking to upgrade to either the 7800X3D or the 9800X3D, also coming from a DDR4 setup with the i7 8700.
