Should I Upgrade My CPU After Getting a New GPU?

I'm building a budget PC and just received an RTX 5060 8GB as a gift from my dad, which is better than my original plan to get a 2060 12GB. I've already purchased a Ryzen 5 5500 CPU. Now I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to upgrade my CPU and sell my current one. Will I face any bottlenecks while playing FiveM, which I hear is CPU-intensive? My motherboard socket is AM4, and I'm still trying to keep costs down. Any advice would be appreciated!

I sold my 5600X for $70 to a friend who upgraded from a 3600, and he noticed a good performance jump. I think I might not have seen a huge difference, but $70 isn’t bad to spend for an upgrade. Might be an option for you if you decide to move to a higher-end CPU.

Thanks for sharing! That's a pretty good return on the old CPU.

Your setup is pretty great for budget gaming actually! I was thinking of putting together a mini PC with similar specs for gaming on the go. But about the bottlenecking—you mentioned that ChatGPT told you your CPU is bottlenecking the GPU. I’d say it's not really a massive concern for your current setup, but an upgrade down the line wouldn’t hurt!

Honestly, your Ryzen 5 5500 is still a solid CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads. It's a good match for budget gaming, especially with that RTX 5060 you have now. Unless you're getting an incredible deal on a used AM4 CPU, it might not be worth upgrading just yet. Maybe save up for a whole new setup with a newer CPU, motherboard, and DDR5 RAM in the future instead! You could sell your old parts to help fund the new gear.

If I get a new CPU, I'm thinking about the Ryzen 7 5800X3D or the regular 5800X if the 3D isn't available. Do you think that would make a significant difference, or should I just wait?
