Should I Upgrade My CPU and Motherboard for Gaming?

Hey everyone! I have a chance to upgrade my computer's CPU and motherboard at what seems like a really good price. Right now, I'm running a Ryzen 7 9700X with an ASUS Prime B650. The upgrade would be to an i9-14900K and an ASUS ROG Dark Hero Z790 for about $150 CAD. I've got 64GB of RAM and a 7900XT in my rig. I know the i9 is powerful, but I'm curious if the upgrade is worth it specifically for gaming at 1440p 144Hz. The money itself isn't a big deal, but the installation process would take around 3-4 hours. So, is it really worth the effort, or should I hold off until my setup needs an upgrade?

I don't think it's worth it either. Sure, the Intel is a bit better in CPU-heavy situations, but it's also less efficient and has no clear upgrade path. The 7800X3D outperforms it for much less energy consumption. Seems smarter to just stick with what you've got for now!

Honestly, I wouldn't go for it. The Intel chip has a couple of downsides like no upgrade path and potential overheating issues. Plus, it's actually not as strong as some of the top-tier AM5 gaming CPUs, and it consumes way more power. Saving yourself that hassle might be a good move!

If you want an upgrade, maybe look into a 9800X3D instead. But honestly, your current setup is still pretty solid. Unless you're hitting some performance limits, I’d say hold off until the next generation of chips comes out. Is your gaming experience really suffering?

The 9700X has been great for me! I’m just tempted because of the deal I found nearby. Just wanted to get some advice before making a decision.
