I recently inherited some older gaming PC parts from my cousin, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. The parts I have include a PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX 570 4GB, a Seasonic Focus GX-850 power supply, an AMD Ryzen 7 3700x processor, and an ID Cooling ARGB fan kit. I own a Dell Optiplex 9020, but I've found out that the Ryzen isn't compatible with it. Since I'm on a budget and don't want to spend a lot on new parts, I'm considering my options. Should I sell the Optiplex and get a different motherboard that's compatible, or should I sell the Ryzen and upgrade the Optiplex with a better CPU instead? I just want a basic gaming PC that can at least run Baldur's Gate 3 at minimum requirements. What do you think I should do?

Honestly, definitely sell the Optiplex. It’s going to be a pain to upgrade because most OEM PCs have limited options.
For sure, sell the Optiplex! Limited upgrade parts are a headache. Just get a better GPU for the new build and you’re good to go.
I would suggest selling the Optiplex and using the money to get a new case along with some RAM and storage. With the parts you have, you should easily meet the minimum system specs for Baldur's Gate 3!
By the way, how much would it cost to start fresh without the Optiplex? I’m worried it might be expensive and tough to put together with all the parts like motherboard, RAM, storage, etc. I’m not really looking to make PC building a hobby; I just want a gaming setup that works without too much hassle.
I agree, just sell the Optiplex and make the most of the parts you have left!

Plus, if you go this route, you’ll have room to upgrade the GPU later on since the Ryzen 7 3700x can handle much more powerful cards like the RTX 4070 or 4070 Ti if you ever decide to get a better monitor for 1440p gaming.
