Should I Upgrade My Gaming PC or Build a New One?

I'm looking for advice on upgrading my beginner gaming PC. I currently have an HP Pavilion with an Intel Core i5 10400F processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Super graphics card, a motherboard model HP 8767, and 12GB of RAM. I've read that my PC can support an upgrade to an Intel Core i7 10700, but I'm not sure if that would provide a significant improvement. Additionally, I'm confused about how to choose a new GPU; is it dependent on the CPU or the motherboard? Given my setup, do you think it's better to upgrade certain components or should I consider building an entirely new PC instead?

Upgrading to the i7 10700 really isn't going to be worth it compared to what you have now. You're better off looking at upgrading your power supply and case first before selecting a new GPU, as those will have a bigger impact on performance.

So what's the key factor for choosing a good GPU?

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check out my power supply and case requirements.

I'd skip the i7 upgrade. Instead, consider moving to an LGA 1700 motherboard or even AM5. This way, you can tailor your GPU choice around your gaming goals and budget, which could yield better performance in the long run.

What advantage does the LGA 1700 chipset offer?
