Should I Upgrade My GPU and CPU for Better Gaming Performance?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my gaming rig, which I built around 3-4 years ago. Here are my current specs:

- **GPU:** Zotac 3060 12GB
- **CPU:** Ryzen 5700x
- **RAM:** 16GB @ 3200mhz
- **STORAGE:** 1 TB NVMe
- **MOBO:** X570 Aorus Elite
- **CASE:** H510 NZXT
- **CPU COOLER:** 120mm NZXT AIO
- **MONITOR:** 144Hz 1080p Samsung

I've been experiencing performance issues in games like Witcher 3 (80-90 fps on medium settings) and Cyberpunk 2077 (also around 80-90 fps but on medium to high). Dota 2 lags when there are a lot of characters on screen. On top of that, I want to get into music production soon.

Considering my budget constraints, would upgrading to a 5800x3d and a 9070 xt be a good move? I'm not looking to overhaul everything to AM5 right now. What upgrades do you suggest for both gaming and productivity?

If your PSU can handle it, start with just the GPU upgrade first and see how that works out. At 1080p, you'll see some benefit from CPU upgrades in CPU-heavy games, but with your 144Hz monitor, there’s a limit to how much you might gain. Maybe aim for a 1440p monitor instead—it could still give your gaming a significant lift without needing a complete overhaul right now.

It’s surprising you’re only getting 90 fps in Witcher 3. Have you tried a fresh install of your GPU drivers? Updating them might help give you a little boost in performance.

I've never done a fresh install of the drivers, just kept them updated. Not sure how to do that.

If you're thinking about moving to 1440p with that 9070xt, then yes! That sounds like a solid plan. Just make sure you’re set on a decent monitor that supports 1440p so you can take full advantage of that GPU.

That's definitely the goal! I've been checking out some 1440p monitors lately.

A 9070 xt should pair well with the 5700x for 1440p. Just keep in mind it might be on the entry-level side for high settings.
