Should I Upgrade My GPU or CPU for Better FPS in CS2 and Valorant?

Hey folks! I built my PC about three years ago and I usually play competitive FPS games like CS2 and Valorant. Recently, I've been having some performance issues. In CS2, I have everything set to low, but I'm still struggling to reach more than 100 FPS, especially when I spam bullets or unscope with the AWP. On the other hand, Valorant runs at over 165 FPS but can drop to around 90 FPS or even lower at times. I also use OBS Studio for recording (though only at 60 FPS) and have Discord running in the background, and I've made sure to disable the Nvidia Overlay.

Here's my current setup:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-10400F
- GPU: MSI GTX 1650
- RAM: 16GB DDR4-2666MHz (single stick)
- Motherboard: Micro-ATX MSI H510M-A Pro
- PSU: EVGA 500W
- Storage: 500GB M.2 SSD + 1TB SATA SSD
- Monitors: 240Hz (main) + 60Hz (second), both at 1080p

I'm considering whether I should upgrade my GPU (maybe to an RTX 3060 Ti) or if I also need a new CPU. I really want a smoother experience without spending too much, and I've heard prices might drop soon—should I wait or buy now?

I get around 200 to 280 FPS while streaming on YouTube and Twitch with my 3060. It's definitely possible to get better performance in these games with the right hardware. Just make sure your system specs are all in sync, and you should see a vast improvement when you upgrade.

I think your main issue is that you went with the GTX 1650 three years ago. It's definitely time for a GPU upgrade! I'd suggest going for something like the 3060 Ti, which would give you a solid performance boost. Your CPU isn't terrible, but pairing it with a better GPU could help a lot.

Adding dual-channel RAM would give a significant boost to your overall performance, for sure. And for your GPU, there's a whole range of options like the 6700 series and other models with at least 8GB of VRAM. These will give you a much better gaming experience without breaking the bank. Don't forget that dual-channel RAM is easy to upgrade and could make a noticeable difference!

Totally agree! I upgraded to dual-channel RAM, and it made a huge difference in performance. A better GPU is a must too, especially considering your current one is outdated.

I've been able to hit 165+ FPS in those games using a 3060 Ti on 1440p, so it's surprising you're struggling with frame rates. You might want to keep an eye on your CPU too; it can be the root of your issues. Make sure everything's optimized before considering a GPU upgrade.

Before splurging on a GPU, have you thought about upgrading your RAM? Running on a single stick is holding you back. Dual channel RAM can significantly improve performance, especially for the games you're playing. It's a cheap and easy upgrade!
