Hey everyone! I've got a 6-year-old PC, and I'm thinking about upgrading some parts without spending a fortune. Right now, I've got a Radeon RX 580 for my graphics card, and it's paired with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700x (8 cores) with 16 GB of RAM on a 64-bit system. I'm trying to play Doom The Dark Ages, but my setup just can't handle it. I know that DOOM DA needs a card that supports ray tracing, so I realize I have to upgrade there eventually. However, I've also learned that the 2700 is showing its age, and upgrading it might be the right move too.
I've been experiencing some annoying crashes and stuttering, even in older games, which makes me wonder if a new CPU could help with that. Ideally, I would love to upgrade both, but that's a bit too pricey for me right now. I'm new to building PCs and sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the options. Any advice on which component to prioritize would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What's your budget for upgrades? If you're set on a grand, that gives you some good options for either a solid GPU or a decent CPU without going overboard. Just make sure to balance it out based on your gaming needs!
If you're looking to upgrade just one component, I'd recommend getting a new GPU first. It will make a noticeable difference in gaming performance. Your current issues probably aren't going to be solved just by swapping out the CPU.
Yeah, I agree! A good GPU can give you a great boost in performance for modern games.
For a CPU upgrade, I'd suggest looking at the Ryzen 5600 or 5600X, or even the 5700X if you can find it for a decent price. The graphics card market varies a lot, but the cheapest current-gen card I’d consider is the Radeon 9600 XT with 16GB. Just make sure whatever you get fits your budget and offers good performance for what you want to play!
I'm thinking around a grand or so; that should help, right?
