I've had my gaming PC for about 12 years now, and while it was pretty solid in the beginning, I'm finding it hard to run most new games. I'm wondering if it's better to just upgrade some components or if I should scrap it all and start fresh with a new build. Here's what I've got:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 @ 3.30GHz
- RAM: 8GB
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
- Storage: 110GB SSD (which is too small) + 882GB HDD (also running low on space)
Currently, I mostly play Company of Heroes 3 and Crusader Kings 2, but I'd love to dive into newer games like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Victoria 3 if I upgrade. What do you think?

Think about it this way: I was in a similar situation, and while I considered upgrading piece by piece, I eventually realized it was smarter to start over. If you're keen on upgrading, I'd suggest starting with the GPU and moving on to the CPU and RAM afterward. But be warned, waiting to upgrade might just lead you to a full rebuild later on!
Exactly, and you'll be amazed at how much better a fresh build feels!
I agree, time for a complete overhaul. Nothing in your current setup is really worth keeping. Maybe use your old storage as a backup, but definitely get a 1TB NVME for your main drive.
Honestly, I’d recommend starting fresh with a new build. The parts you have are quite outdated, and it'll likely be more cost-effective in the long run. Plus, new components like the AM5 platform offer better performance and future-proofing.
That makes sense! I guess it’s better to commit to a new system instead of piecemealing a really old one.
