Should I upgrade my PC now or wait for a bigger upgrade?

I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 5600x and an RTX 3070 Ti, and I'm considering upgrading to a used Ryzen 7 5800x3d and an RTX 3080. My PSU, RAM, and motherboard are still suitable for the new components, so I could sell my old parts to offset the costs. Money is a bit tight at the moment, though, so I'm wondering if this upgrade is worth it, or if I should just wait and save for a full system instead, like a Ryzen 9 9600x and an RTX 5070.

Honestly, going for the 3080 isn't really necessary since it's only a small step up from your 3070 Ti. If you're going to upgrade, maybe consider a more significant jump like the 4070 series instead. Also, the 5800x3d is a solid choice if you can find it at a good price, especially if you're running demanding tasks, but it's not completely necessary if you're satisfied with your current performance.

Good point! I've heard the 5800x3d can be fantastic for gaming, but if you're not struggling now, maybe wait.

It really comes down to satisfaction with your current performance. If your games are running smoothly and you're not facing any serious issues, those upgrades might not give you the bang for your buck you hope for. Upgrading to a 32GB RAM setup could be a more beneficial choice instead of diving into the GPU territory right now since you already have enough RAM. Also, the 3080's performance increase over a 3070 Ti is minimal at best.

Agreed! There are often better options than just sticking to one series. Check for prices on the latest cards as they can provide better performance.

I think you should hold off for now. If money's tight, putting that cash towards a brand new system in the future would likely give you better value. The 5600x and 3070 Ti should still handle most games well at 1080p or even 1440p without a hitch. Unless you absolutely need the upgrade for very demanding titles, it's probably not worth it just yet.

Exactly! Plus, newer GPU models are just around the corner. It might be smart to save up and get something tech-savvy.

I’d say wait it out as well! The upcoming GPU generations will likely provide more significant improvements than the ones you're considering right now. Why waste money on what could feel like a lateral move?

If you’re not feeling the performance pinch yet, I’d totally suggest waiting it out. Your system is still pretty solid, and with AM4’s lifecycle nearing its end, good funds towards an AM5 setup could pay off way better for you in the long run!
