I'm considering upgrading my PC due to the current supply problems with RAM and the potential for another GPU crunch soon. I'd like my system to last for a while—ideally until the market stabilizes, or until we're all using government-issued computers. My current setup includes a B450 motherboard, Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, GeForce RTX 2070 Super GPU, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 4TB Samsung EVO SSD. I mainly game at 1440p and do some general productivity work. I'm wondering if it makes sense to upgrade my GPU and RAM right now, whether my B450 platform is still viable, and what upgrade path would offer me the best long-term value amidst all this uncertainty.

I recently shifted from a Ryzen 3 2600 with a GeForce 1060 to a Ryzen 7 5800X with a Radeon 9600 XT, and the performance boost is incredible!
If you have the budget, I’d suggest getting a 9070 XT or a 5070 Ti. Your Ryzen 5 5600X should hold up fine for a couple of years. Plus, with used DDR4 RAM not being too pricey right now, consider grabbing a 2x16GB kit to upgrade your memory as well.
If you’re looking for the best long-term value, consider a full rebuild by selling your old setup. If you need something quick, upgrading to a 5070 or 5070 Ti would do the trick. You'll want to ensure your new systems will outlast this supply crunch.
I recommend prioritizing a GPU upgrade since your 2070 Super is getting outdated. Look for an RX 9070 or RTX 5070; you can upgrade the rest of your system later. While your B450 platform is decent now, it’s gradually being phased out, so I wouldn't invest too much into it. Take your time with an AM5 upgrade, especially with DDR5 RAM prices being high.
For 1440p gaming, I'd go for the RTX 5070 Ti or the RX 9070XT—both should serve you well for years. But I'd buy your GPU sooner rather than later, since prices are expected to rise this year.
