Should I Upgrade My PC or Build a New One for 4K Gaming?

Hey everyone! I've been using my Origin PC since 2018 and I'm looking to dive into 4K gaming. I'm curious if I should just upgrade my existing setup or if it's better to build a brand new rig since my current parts might be outdated. I'd love to play games like Alan Wake 2 or The Last of Us 2 Remastered on high or ultra settings. I plan on budgeting around $4K, which gives me some time to build it over the next year or two. Here's what I'm working with right now:

- Power Supply: 850 Watt EVGA SuperNOVA G3
- Motherboard: MSI Z390M Gaming Edge AC
- Graphics Card: Single 8GB GeForce RTX 2070 Founder's Edition
- Memory: 16GB ORIGIN PC DDR4 Powered by Kingston 3000MHz (2 X 8GB)
- Processor: Intel Core i7 8700K 6-Core 3.7GHz (4.7GHz TurboBoost)

Thanks for any advice you can share!

One thing to consider is that upgrading just one part at a time can be tricky. If you start with a GPU, for instance, you might end up waiting ages to replace the CPU and other components, which can lead to mismatched performance. It’s usually smarter to save up and make the switch all at once!

That makes sense! But if I do get a 5000 series card, wouldn’t that still be pretty good for a few years before I need a new one? My 2070 is still doing fine for 1440p after all these years.

If you're aiming for the kind of performance you want with that budget, I think a new build is definitely the better option. You'll get better longevity out of new components that can handle 4K gaming without bottlenecking.

Yeah, aiming for at least five years of good performance is a great goal. But just a heads up, with 4K gaming, technology can evolve pretty fast. Make sure your setup can last and provide solid performance for all those upcoming titles without needing frequent upgrades.
