Should I Upgrade My PSU for my New High-End PC Build?

Hey folks! I'm in the process of upgrading my setup to an Intel i9-14900K paired with an ASUS ROG Strix Z790-A motherboard, 2x32GB RAM, and an RTX 5070 12GB. I also have an AIO cooler. Currently, I'm using a Thermaltake smart bm2 750W Bronze PSU with my i3-12100 and it has been working great thus far. With this new configuration, do you think I should consider upgrading the PSU, or will the 750W still suffice?

First off, are you planning to use this rig mostly for gaming, or will it handle some heavy CPU tasks? If it’s mainly gaming, the i9-14900K might be overkill for the RTX 5070. I'd suggest at least an 850W gold-rated PSU to handle the high power demands of that CPU. Also, do you already have the motherboard, or are you getting it fresh? If you haven't bought the parts yet, maybe consider an AM5 build with a 7800X3D for better value.

I totally recommend reevaluating your CPU and GPU balance. It seems a bit off to spend so much on the i9 and skimp on the GPU. Maybe allocate some of that budget towards upgrading to an RX 9070XT, which will give you a better bang for your buck in performance.

No matter which route you take, don’t forget to check a PSU tier list! Aim for at least a B+ rating to ensure you're getting a reliable unit.
