Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out the best path for my gaming setup. I've had my AM4 build for almost 10 years, and I'm considering two options: upgrade my RAM from 16GB to 32GB for around $200 or make a bigger investment by switching to an AM5 setup, which would cost about $600-700. The current build features a Ryzen 5600X processor, a 7900XT GPU, and I'm mostly playing open-world games like No Man's Sky and Starfield. I've noticed my CPU is spiking during gaming, but it's mostly around 60% usage. I'm concerned that upgrading my RAM might just reveal that my CPU starts to bottleneck instead. I would love to hear your experiences—if I do upgrade the RAM, how likely is it that the CPU will become the next limiting factor? Or should I just wait for the next generation of components?

If you still have two empty RAM slots on your motherboard, why not just add an additional 16GB kit? It should be relatively affordable—I've seen used options for around $50 in my area. Upgrading to 32GB can definitely help with that RAM bottleneck you're facing. Also, the difference between DDR4 3200 and 3600 isn't really that big in most scenarios, so I wouldn't stress too much about that.

Haha, I read your entire post and I'm still a bit confused about what you're trying to fix! Are you leaning towards the RAM upgrade or the new platform?
