I'm currently running a setup with an ASUS B550 motherboard, a Ryzen 5 5600G, and an RTX 3060 (12GB), all powered by an 800W PSU. I have 64GB of RAM but I'm only using 32GB. When I play demanding games, my CPU runs pretty hot, around 145°F, with occasional spikes which are still manageable. I mainly play RTS games, so I'm wondering whether I should upgrade my CPU or GPU, or should I just start fresh with an AM5 build instead? I have a budget of about $500, which is a bit tricky since my previous build cost me around $700. I want to avoid overspending if I can stick with my current setup.

It sounds like your temps are pretty high for the 5600G, so I'd check your cooling before making any upgrades. For RTS games, your CPU should be fine. You might just need a better cooler to improve those temps and overall performance. If you get better airflow or cooling, it could make a big difference without breaking the bank!

Yeah, airflow is key! I had to tweak my fan settings manually because they weren't ramping up properly. I'd recommend investing in some case fans or a good CPU cooler. They're often not too expensive and can really help with those overheating issues. What kind of case do you have?
