Should I Upgrade to a 5800XT or Go for a 7800X3D Build?

I'm debating whether to upgrade my current setup or go for a more extensive build. Right now, I have an EVGA 2080 Ti, an x570 Aorus Elite motherboard, an R7 3600x CPU, and 32GB of RAM (with a mismatched speed of 2133mhz and 2600mhz). I'm considering upgrading my CPU to a 5800XT for about $335 CAD, but there's also a tempting bundle for a 7800X3D and motherboard for around $760 CAD, plus I can get 32GB of 5200mhz CL40 RAM for $330 from someone on the marketplace. So essentially, it would cost me $335 for the CPU upgrade or around $1,100 for the full bundle. I mostly play single-player games like FF7 and Elden Ring, and I'm interested in getting into newer titles like Nioh3. Any thoughts on which option is more worthwhile in the current market?

I think maximizing your current AM4 setup with the 5800XT is the way to go. I’m planning on picking one up myself soon. Just remember to update your BIOS before making the switch!

Roger that, thank you! I’ll make sure to flash the BIOS.

Is that $335 CAD just for the 5800XT on its own? Seems like a decent deal!

Thanks, yeah, it’s $335 CAD for the 5800XT alone.

A few months ago, I would’ve easily recommended jumping to AM5. But with everything that's happened in the market, I also support upgrading to the 5800XT. If you can, try to grab a 32GB 3200mhz or 3600mhz RAM kit for the best performance.

I had a 3600 and recently upgraded to the 5800XT. The only reason I didn't go with a big build was that I wasn’t keen on spending so much cash. I noticed some bundles at Canada Computers, like a 9600x for $800 or a 7600X3D for $799.99, if that interests you!

Yea, it’s quite a bit of cash! Thanks for checking those bundles. I think the 7600X3D one only comes with 2x8GB RAM sadly. After taxes, my bundle + marketplace RAM would be just a bit more.

I’d personally stick with upgrading to the 5800XT and use some of that extra cash to snag faster RAM or maybe even a new GPU down the line. It’s a solid upgrade without breaking the bank!

That sounds like a solid plan. Thank you!
