Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on whether I should upgrade my current setup from an i9 9900k to the 9950X3D right now or hold out for the rumored 9950X3D2. My 9900k has been struggling and overheating, especially with all the batch processing I've been doing. Plus, I feel like it's holding back my RTX 4090 during gaming. I'm using my rig for both productivity and gaming, which is why I'm considering the extra cores and cache with the 9950. If the uplift of the 9950X3D2 is significant, I might be worth waiting for. But I'm also wary of past experiences where I regretted upgrading too soon. What do you all think?

Honestly, don't get too caught up in the rumors about the 9950X3D2. Unless it's officially announced, it's all speculation. The performance gains from a dual x3d setup won't be significant for gaming. It's more about the single CCD performance due to latency issues. If you're ready to upgrade, just go for the 9950X3D. You'll see a nice boost, especially since your 9900k is struggling.
It’s tempting to wait for the next shiny thing, but tech is always advancing. You can’t predict release dates or specs. If you get the 9950X3D now, you can enjoy it without the constant worry of upgrades. Just have fun with it!
Exactly, the constant chase for the latest tech can lead to disappointment. Enjoy your new CPU now and worry about the next upgrade later.
There's always something new around the corner, and you can't let FOMO dictate your upgrades. Just get the 9950X3D and be comfortable with it. Comparison will just make you feel unsatisfied. Plus, it won't get worse when new ones come out!
Exactly! Getting a new CPU now will be a great improvement from your i9.
Waiting for the next big upgrade is a gamble. By the time it comes out, we might be looking at Zen 6, which is expected to have a bigger performance uplift. If you feel ready to buy now, I’d say go ahead!
And yeah, the 9950X3D just released six months ago. No point in holding your breath for something that's not officially announced yet!

Exactly! Most games are optimized for around 16 cores. Getting something with 32 cores might not even utilize the extra cache effectively. So, just get the 9950X3D and enjoy your upgrade!
