Should I Warn My Boss About His Imminent Layoff?

I'm using a throwaway account for privacy. I've learned that my boss, who has been running our IT department, is about to be let go. He's been a fantastic mentor, helping me grow from a help desk position to a sysadmin role. I really want to help him out since the job market is pretty tough right now for someone with his experience. Should I give him a heads-up about the layoff, or send him any resources or leads? He's been with the company for 20 years, so I can only imagine how difficult it will be for him to navigate the job market again. Any advice would be appreciated, especially if you have contacts or resources that could help him.

As much as you want to help, it's really risky to clue him in. If word gets out that you leaked this info, it could cost you both your jobs. The IT job market is tough, but breaking confidentiality might hurt your career more than help him. Best to keep quiet and support him after the layoff instead.

Exactly! It's a sensitive situation, and leaking that info could label you as untrustworthy. Plus, once he’s let go, you can offer him support through references and connections.
