Should I Worry About 10.8% Damaged Blocks on My Hard Drive?

I ran a full scan on my hard drive last year, and it reported 10.8% damaged blocks, mostly concentrated at the beginning of the scan results. There were around 300 red blocks in total. I just did another scan a year later, and now it shows only 0.6% damaged blocks with a few scattered reds, which is a big change. I thought damaged blocks were unrecoverable, so I'm curious if I should be worried about the condition of my drive, especially since I've noticed a strange noise coming from it. What does this mean for my hard drive's health?

It’s great that you’re keeping an eye on your drive’s health! Regardless of the scan results, always make sure you have your data backed up. It’s definitely concerning to see damaged blocks, especially 10.8%. Even though your new scan shows only 0.6%, I recommend monitoring it closely and replacing the drive if the damaged blocks start piling up again. Better safe than sorry!

Good point! I always back up my files anyway, just in case something goes wrong. How often should I check my drive?

Damaged blocks indicate that your disk is starting to fail. While 12 blocks isn’t critical yet, that’s a sign to keep checking on it regularly and definitely have backups in place. If you previously had 10.8%, I’d suggest you replace that drive as soon as you can. You might luck out now, but don’t push your luck!
