Starting App Development at 40: Where Should I Begin?

I'm a 40-year-old with a background in computers but little to no coding experience. I'm interested in learning how to create apps—specifically web or iOS apps—just for fun. I'm curious about where to start. Do I need to get a bachelor's degree to learn this? Also, are there any free or paid resources you recommend? I'm not looking to make a ton of money or become famous; I just want to enjoy the learning process. Thanks in advance!

You might want to check out Harvard's CS50x. It's a free course that covers the basics of programming and is really well done. I’ve heard from others that even without prior experience, completing it gives you the skills to build simple apps. You can get started here: cs50.harvard.edu/x/2025.

If you're looking to jump right in, I recommend trying Flutter. It's quite user-friendly with lots of documentation and free modules available. It also allows you to develop apps for both web and mobile. Plus, you can experiment with cross-platform capabilities, which is pretty exciting!
