I've been trying to get my home server up and running for quite some time now. Even though I've worked in IT for years, I haven't had much experience with Linux. I decided to go with Arch Linux because I love its documentation, ethos, and minimal setup. My goal is to have a lightweight and unobtrusive OS without any distractions. However, I've run into roadblock after roadblock during installation and I'm starting to feel overwhelmed. Should I consider an alternative? I've dabbled with Debian and found it workable, but I'm also curious about Ubuntu or possibly other Arch-based distros. Any suggestions?

Arch can be pretty tough, especially if you're new to Linux. Since you have an IT background, you might find Ubuntu LTS or Fedora Workstation KDE easier to manage. They're both well-documented and have strong community support. Linux Mint is also a beginner-friendly option based on Ubuntu that works great even on older hardware. All of these are reliable and won't vanish overnight!
I totally agree! Arch is appealing, but it's better to return to it once you're more comfortable. Those other distros will definitely help you get set up without the extra hassle. Thanks for the tips!
