Struggling with GPU Power Connection Issue

I'm pretty new to PC building and I could use some help. I just set up a new Corsair RM750e power supply and I'm trying to connect my Asus 5700 GPU. I've managed to connect one PCIe cable to the GPU, which has two ports (one 8-pin and one 6-pin). The 8-pin connection has a white light, but I'm having trouble with the other port; it shows a red light, and as a result, I can't get any video to my monitor. I'm not sure what's going wrong and would really appreciate any advice!

Are you sure you're using a PCI-E power cable? It needs to be fully seated into the GPU. Just double check that it's all the way in!

I just checked – it is definitely a PCI-E cable. I even tried switching the cables from one port to the other on the graphics card, and now the other port has the red light. The cable I'm using has a 6+2 pin, but the 2 extra pins can't fit into the PSU. Is that causing any issues?
