I recently built a new PC mainly for gaming and decided to install CachyOS with KDE. However, my experience hasn't been great so far. I haven't done much apart from installing the CachyOS gaming package, Thunderbird, and Okular. I've encountered some irritating issues, especially with keyboard shortcuts for locking the screen that just don't work. I was also unhappy with how windows behaved, and only managed to fix it by using a custom Kwin script.
After trying to set up gaming mode by installing the gamescope-session package, I faced even more problems. My DE theme switched from dark to light, and the CachyOS logo reverted to the default KDE one. Worried that I messed things up, I reverted to a snapshot, but now even more issues have arisen. I'm confused whether these problems stem from CachyOS, KDE, or maybe it's just me not knowing how to configure things properly. Given that many people rave about KDE, I'm wondering if trying a different distro would improve my experience, or if I should switch to a different desktop environment altogether. I'm also considering GNOME as I've realized I don't care too much about DE customization. Other options I'm looking into are vanilla Arch or a different distro like Bazzite.

If you're looking for a smoother experience, you might want to try out Fedora with KDE. I run that, and everything from shortcuts to installing packages works flawlessly for me without issues. It sounds like your trouble is either with CachyOS or maybe something specific to your setup.

I appreciate the suggestion! Gaming is fine with CachyOS, but it feels like I’m creating unnecessary problems by trying to replicate a Steam Deck setup.
