Struggling with Linux: Need Help with Multiple Issues

I recently made the switch to Linux Mint, and while I have some experience with it, I'm running into a ton of issues that I can't seem to figure out. After verifying the ISO and installing it, everything seemed fine for a short while. However, here's a list of problems I'm facing:

1. Internet and download speeds have dropped significantly. I used to get around 10MB/s, but now I'm barely reaching 100kb/s.

2. My laptop's battery life has decreased drastically; it used to last about 6 hours on 80%, but now I'm lucky if it lasts 1.5 hours.

3. Steam games won't launch at all, even those marked as fully compatible with Linux, despite me activating Proton and Steam Play.

4. Lutris fails to work. I've tried reinstalling it multiple times, but nothing happens when I attempt to launch any game.

5. Changing any settings, like monitor or power settings, doesn't seem to produce any effect; my screen just goes black momentarily and resets.

I'm really frustrated since my laptop is pretty much unusable right now, and I'm unsure if I should stick it out with Mint or consider switching to a different distro or even back to Windows 10. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey! So first off, it’d help to know your laptop model and specs, especially whether it has a dedicated GPU. If it's Nvidia, make sure you install the Nvidia drivers via the driver manager. This could explain some of your battery issues since laptops usually use integrated graphics to save power. You might also check out TLP for further battery optimizations.

Also, Mint’s Cinnamon might not be the best for battery performance; consider switching to a distro with a more modern setup, like Fedora with KDE, which has been shown to perform better. As for your Steam issue, double-check that you enabled Steam Play for all titles in the settings. If all else fails, a fresh install of Mint might be the way to go!

I hear ya! Have you tried using Heroic Game Launcher instead of Lutris? I’ve found it to be more reliable for installing and running games on Linux. You might want to check out a video on it [here](https://youtu.be/2me-Q5Zsk_s). It could potentially solve your problem!

Instead of just reinstalling everything like you might do on Windows, try to consider what's known as "DLL hell" issues. A fresh install can always seem fine initially, but as you install more apps, conflicts can arise. Look into using containerized software like Flatpak or Docker; they can help prevent these conflicts and keep things running smoothly.
