Hey everyone! I created this account to seek some guidance because I'm feeling overwhelmed with my PC build. It seems like a lot of people are asking similar questions, and I want to avoid repeating what's already been said. My goal is to find some clarity and perhaps entertain you a bit with my situation.
In short, I've already got most of the components for my PC, but I'm at a crossroads about some upgrades and configurations. Here's what I'm working with so far: GPU, SSD, motherboard, CPU, case, and PSU, but I've been second-guessing my RAM selection and aesthetic choices.
I know I have three sets of RAM, but I'm currently using just one set, which is performing well — it's a low-profile configuration at CL 30, 6000 MHz. The other sets are visually appealing, but I'm worried they might not mesh well speed-wise since they are rated for CL 28, 6000 MHz and CL 30, 6400 MHz. I've read conflicting opinions about mixed RAM speeds, so if anyone has insights or experiences, I'd love to hear them!
Also, I'm aiming to create a workstation that can handle various tasks like programming, multimedia design, and gaming at 4K if possible. I plan to use this build for a bunch of different things, ranging from coding classes at Yale to multimedia projects in Blender and Unreal Engine.
So, if you could drop any advice or share your own experiences with similar builds, I'd really appreciate it!

Hey! For your RAM, it's usually best to stick with the same speed and latency to maintain stability, especially if you're using them for more demanding tasks like gaming and design. Mixing RAM of different speeds can sometimes work, but you might end up underclocking to the speed of the slowest stick. I’d suggest going for 64GB of high-speed RAM at CL30 if you can manage that. You sound like you’ll be multitasking a ton with all those tabs open!
Thanks for the tip! I was really hoping to keep the visuals intact too, but performance is key, so I might lean towards uniform RAM to avoid problems.
So about the cooling and fans, I'd recommend focusing on function while having a bit of style if you can. Look for fans that have good static pressure, especially if you've got a radiator setup. RGB can be cool, but prioritize performance first. You might end up mixing both form and function nicely!
Thanks! Yeah, I'm leaning towards more performance-oriented fans first. I want my build to look good, but it has to work right.
Regarding the GPU, I think you'd be happier with an Nvidia card instead of AMD for projects in Unreal Engine and Blender. Their drivers tend to be more stable, which is a huge advantage during intensive work. Your choice for a cool aesthetic with the black and gold theme is awesome! Just make sure it performs well too.
Good call! You want everything to run smoothly, especially with all those planned projects.
I hadn’t thought of that! I'll look into Nvidia options that fit my budget.
Totally agree. Stability is worth it, especially for heavy workloads!
