I recently updated my Windows and everything seemed fine at first. After the updates, I got another notification for a cumulative update. Once I finished that and restarted my PC, I got stuck on a screen displaying "99" in the corner. After waiting a few minutes, that message disappeared, and now I've got a black screen with no signal. I've tried restarting multiple times, but I just keep getting the same black screen.
Here are my specs:
- MSI 970 Gaming
- AMD FX 8350
- Nvidia 750 TI
- 16 GB DDR3
To troubleshoot, I researched a bit and read that removing the CMOS battery could help reset the BIOS after a failed update. I tried that but it didn't work. The process was tricky because I had to remove my GPU to access the CMOS battery, which made me worry that my GPU might have broken during the process. I've built PCs for over 10 years, so I'm not sure what went wrong. I've been unable to connect to my PC via TeamViewer to check what's happening.
Today, I'm planning to get a new CMOS battery just in case the old one is dead. Any other suggestions?

Have you tried seeing if you can get to the BIOS? If it’s not loading at all, that might indicate a deeper issue. Also, when you leave it on after the restart, does it keep restarting on its own or does it just seem stuck? If you can get a signal in the BIOS, then you might be able to troubleshoot further from there. You mentioned you can’t see it on TeamViewer; have you set up automatic log-in properly so it can start without any interaction? If everything fails, trying a different GPU might be an option, but I understand it can be tough to access everything depending on your case setup.
Looks like you're in a bit of a bind! If the BIOS isn't loading, that’s definitely an issue. I’d suggest giving it a little time to see if it responds. If it still doesn’t work after some time, then considering using another GPU might be necessary, even if it’s a hassle.
