Suggestions for Building My Kid’s First PC

I'm looking to build my kid a first PC setup on a budget, ideally less powerful than my own. I currently have a 7800X3D CPU and a 4070Ti GPU. I'd like to create a more affordable AM5 setup for him, where I can eventually hand down my old GPU, a 2070. I'm aiming for a budget of around $700, not including the GPU. What parts do you recommend?

First off, what do you mean by 'cheaper'? It helps to have a sense of your budget and market. But if you're aiming for around $700 without the GPU, there are some solid options out there. Just let us know more about what 'cheaper' means!

My budget is definitely under yours—around $700 excluding the GPU.

You actually have some good options for that budget! I’d suggest looking at an AM5 9600X paired with a B650 motherboard and 32GB of RAM. But keep in mind, even though you're thinking of the 2070 now, you might want to consider a better GPU later down the line.
