Suggestions for Upgrading My 7-Year-Old PC

Hey everyone! This is my first post here, and I'm really excited to be part of this community. I've been gaming on my current PC for about 7 years, and I'm ready to upgrade! I'm not super experienced with PC building, as I've only assembled my current rig and one previous build.

I'm planning to buy all the new components around Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and I've created a spreadsheet of my existing setup and a new build on PCPartPicker. I'm looking for some advice on what upgrades could make a significant difference in my gaming and work performance, without breaking the bank.

I've heard that the differences between various 5080 graphics cards are minimal, so I'm leaning towards getting the most affordable option. Also, I haven't considered salvaging parts from my old PC yet—would it be worth it, or should I just sell it? Thanks in advance for your help!

Looks like your PCPartPicker link was broken. Make sure you have the permalink, or maybe lay it out in table format for clarity. I can help if you need tips!

If you're working with the same budget, you might want to consider upgrading to an RTX 5090 instead of a 5080. It offers about 50% better performance in games! Here's a potential build suggestion for you: a good CPU, adequate cooling, and enough RAM would significantly enhance your experience without a huge price jump.

What exactly can I expect if I upgrade to this motherboard and cooling setup? I'm worried about performance loss vs. just upgrading the GPU.

You might feel some hesitation about those upgrades, but trust me, the cooling and memory improvements can make a big difference. Don’t stress too much—it's part of the learning process!

You’re right about the 5080s being similar in performance, but don't overlook how much noise different models can make. Some compact GPUs are louder because they have less efficient cooling. If you're gaming with headphones most of the time like I do, the noise shouldn't concern you as much. Still, something to think about!

Wow, I never thought about that! Noise really isn’t on my radar since I'm usually in my headphones. Thanks for bringing that up!

Before you make any changes, can I ask what type of work you'll be doing? If it's just basic office tasks, then a powerful CPU like the 9950X3D might be overkill. More details could lead to better recommendations for your needs!

I actually do a lot of multitasking—sales work with many tabs open in Salesforce, along with Zoom calls. And for gaming, I'm interested in titles like WoW and Battlefield.
