Surprised by High AWS Bill – Need Help!

Hi everyone, I'm a master's student trying to use AWS for a portfolio project, and I've hit a bit of a snag with my billing. I started using QuickSight in February and only saw a $0.60 charge last month, so I thought everything was fine. However, when I checked my bill today, I noticed a shocking charge of $182, with $154 of that just for QuickSight and the rest in taxes. After closing my QuickSight account and raising a support case, I logged back in after about 10 hours, and the bill increased to $185, likely due to some delay in updates. As a student, I can't afford such a large bill, especially with currency conversion to INR adding even more stress. I've asked for a one-time waiver in my support case and would really appreciate any advice or assistance here too. I've set up a billing alert for $5 now, but this is my first major billing issue, and I'm looking for some urgent help. Thanks!

QuickSight can indeed escalate costs unexpectedly. It used to be more straightforward, but now it can have additional fees, especially if you activate certain features. It’s always best to read through the pricing details when first using a service. Switching to a different setup might save you a headache in the future!

It’s rough dealing with unexpected charges like that! AWS can get tricky because they charge based on resource usage, and sometimes it’s hard to track all the usage unless you keep an eye on it constantly. Make sure to monitor your resources more closely going forward. Hopefully, the support team can help you out with that waiver request.

Check your AWS resources and services thoroughly. Sometimes, if something is set up in a way that it's open to use, you might end up incurring costs you didn’t expect. It's good you're taking steps like setting a billing alert now, but definitely dive into the details of what might be active in your account.
