Switching from Linux Mint: What Distro Should I Try Next?

Hey everyone! I'm a newbie to Linux and I decided to give Linux Mint a shot as my first distro. However, I ran into a problem: my main monitor isn't working because Mint doesn't support DisplayPort on the ARC B580 unless I have kernel version 6.12.4 or higher. I spent an hour trying to update the kernel but couldn't get it to work, so I'm thinking about switching to a different distro. What distros are similar to Mint but support a newer kernel? I've heard that Fedora could be a good choice, but I don't know much about it. Any suggestions?

Definitely check out MX Linux! It's based on Debian too and has an AHS version with kernel 6.14, which should support your hardware better. Plus, it's quite user-friendly. The Xfce desktop might feel a bit simpler than Cinnamon, but you can install other environments if you want a change. Check it out!

I saw that they didn’t support DisplayPort on my graphics card, though. Am I missing something?

That’s a tricky situation! If you’re looking for something similar to Mint but with better support for newer hardware, you might want to try Debian Stable. It's lightweight and actually the base for Mint. You can choose your desktop environment during installation, so if you like the Cinnamon desktop, go for that. Just a thought—what do you think?

That sounds promising! I just struggle with kernel updates, but I’ll give it a try.
