Switching from Windows to SteamOS: Can I use the apps I need?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to transition from Windows to SteamOS since I'm comfortable using it on my Steam Deck. I've got a pretty decent Windows 11 laptop that's around 6 to 8 years old, which I mainly use for studying. With a new desk setup that doesn't fit my laptop, I'm considering moving my study tasks to the Steam Deck. However, I rely on a few essential applications that I'm worried won't work on SteamOS. Here's what I need:

- **Samsung Notes**: This is a must-have for me, but I found out it's a UWP app from the Microsoft Store and I don't think it'll run on Wine.

- **Microsoft Word**: I need to format my papers according to specific requirements set by my teachers. While I could use the web version, I dislike OneDrive and prefer local file access.

- **Acrobat Pro**: I need this for managing PDFs—editing, converting, etc.

Other apps on my radar are Stremio and Anki, but those should be easy to handle. Additionally, I need to switch between Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic languages for typing. Any advice on how I can set this all up on SteamOS would be greatly appreciated!

Using your Steam Deck for your computer sounds like a cool plan! For the PDF stuff, Okular should be pre-installed since SteamOS runs KDE Plasma. As for word processing, you might want to check out LibreOffice, OnlyOffice, or Collabora. If you're concerned about .docx compatibility, OnlyOffice could be your best bet.

Now about Samsung Notes—you're right that it’s tricky; Samsung really wants you using their devices. If you need a similar alternative, consider Joplin, which is pretty versatile for note-taking. Let me know if this helps!

Thanks for the insights! By the way, I do have a Galaxy Tab which I use for taking notes. I was wondering if there’s a way to share my tablet screen with my Linux PC?
