Hey everyone! I've been using Windows for a while now, and I'm not really interested in upgrading to Windows 11. Instead, I'm considering giving Linux a shot on my spare Dell Optiplex 360, which has 4GB of RAM. I mostly use it for browsing the internet and working with Microsoft Word. I would love to hear any advice or suggestions for beginner-friendly Linux distributions since I'm pretty new to Linux and eager to learn!

If you're looking for a Windows-like experience, Linux Mint Debian Edition or Zorin is great. They are easy to set up and use. If gaming is in your plans, Bazzite is worth checking out!
Try MX Linux! It’s light and works right out of the box, perfect for your setup.
Honestly, for web surfing any distro should handle it well! There are lots of beginner-friendly options. For document work, I recommend using LibreOffice for Word documents; it’s not perfect, but it does the job. If you want something more robust, check out WPS Office. If you don’t have highly specialized needs, the transition should be pretty smooth. Welcome to Linux—it’s a breath of fresh air!
Moving to Linux might be a bit of a culture shock since it's like moving to a new country! Be prepared to learn and adapt. Also, remember that Linux isn’t just one version—there are many distributions (distros) to choose from, each with its own quirks. The key is to find one that suits your needs. .
I'd definitely suggest Ubuntu as a very popular starting point.
Linux Mint or Ubuntu are fantastic starting points—super user-friendly and great for newcomers! You won’t get too frustrated with either of those.
Definitely! A good tip is to take your time transitioning instead of switching all at once. This way, you can compare and find replacements for your usual Windows software.
What makes Bazzite more suited for gaming compared to Mint? I’ve tried Mint on an old laptop, but I want to make sure my desktop will handle gaming well when I switch!
