Thinking About Upgrading from Intel to AMD – Any Advice?

Hey everyone! I'm currently running an Intel i9-11900K on an ASUS PRIME Z590-P WiFi motherboard, cooled with a DeepCool Castle 240RGB V2. I'm planning to switch over to a Ryzen 9800X3D paired with a B850 AORUS ELITE or potentially an ASUS Prime board (depending on header locations). I'm also looking at getting 32GB of Trident Z5 Neo DDR5-6000 CL30 RAM. Most of my usage is gaming, with some Photoshop here and there. The reason for the switch is mainly for better performance in certain games like Rust, and I'm aware that this will require a new motherboard anyway. Is there anything important I might be missing with this setup? I plan to upgrade in a month or two unless I find a great deal on components right now, especially since RAM prices are quite high.

Honestly, AMD works just fine for gaming and will probably save you some cash too. Just keep an eye on those RAM prices, as they can fluctuate a lot; waiting might be a smart move.

I’m definitely trying to avoid any regrets with this buy, so that’s good to know. I’ll take my time to choose the right parts.

Hey, you mentioned the wrong title! I initially thought you were going the other way around. Switching to AMD could be a great move, especially for gaming! Just make sure that you choose a reliable motherboard, some reviews say modern Prime boards can have questionable VRM performance.

Thanks! Yeah, I just noticed that. I might be leaning more towards the AORUS Elite now.

If you could, snag a bundle deal at MicroCenter for the 9850x3D, that would be a solid choice. Unfortunately, I know you're in the UK – wish we had those options over there.

I really wish we did too! It's a bummer I can't take advantage of those deals.
