Thinking About Upgrading My CPU – Is It Worth It?

I'm considering upgrading my CPU and I'd love to hear your thoughts! Here's my current setup: I have a decent PC that I've enjoyed for a few years—my only change has been to 32GB of RAM. I'm planning to build a new rig in about a year with all the latest features, but for now, I think upgrading my CPU could be a nice little boost. I currently have a 2080 Ti, which seems fine, but I've noticed that in games like Rust, the consensus is often "it's CPU heavy, get a better CPU." My friend recommended the Ryzen 9 5950X, and it looks compatible on PCPartPicker, but I'd need a BIOS update. So, what do you all think—should I go for the 5950X or is there a better option? Also, for reference, I'm gaming on a 1440p monitor.

You might want to consider the Ryzen 5700X3D instead of the 5950X for gaming. It actually outperforms the 5950X in many gaming scenarios, even though the 5950X has more cores. The architecture of the 5700X3D is more gaming-friendly!

Interesting! Can you explain why the 5700X3D is better for gaming? I thought more cores would mean better performance.
