Thinking of Switching from Windows to Linux for Gaming—What’s My Best Move?

Asked By GamerGuru99 On

I've got a massive collection of games, over 30TB worth, installed on my Windows 11 PC. This includes platforms like Steam, Epic Games, GoG, Microsoft Store, Battle.net, Ubisoft, and EA Play. If I were to switch to Linux, what distribution or tools would help me get the best compatibility for my games? Are there any reliable resources to check compatibility? I'm trying to avoid making a choice that limits my gaming options, so I'd appreciate any advice on this! Thanks!

You're sitting on an impressive library! But really, why do you need all those games? Do you even play them? Maybe consider cleaning up and keeping just the ones you love—it might save you a headache in the long run!

I'm at 16TB on my gaming rig and honestly, I'm impressed but worried! If you're gaming on Microsoft games through Game Pass, those are basically locked to Windows because of how they're set up. For Steam, they have the "Deck verified" label that indicates compatibility, and it can be quite informative when looking for games to play. Most games from Epic can be hit or miss in terms of compatibility, but using Heroic Game Launcher tends to help manage those games smoothly.

You might want to check out tools like areweanticheatyet and ProtonDB for more insights on game compatibility. Just remember that having a super huge library may be overkill if you rarely play most of those games. Why not clear some space? You could evaluate which ones you actually enjoy and keep it manageable.
