Thinking of Switching to Linux Mint: Any Advice on Compatibility and Concerns?

Hey everyone! I'm considering making the switch from Windows 10 to Linux Mint after years of using Windows, mainly due to frustrations with Microsoft and recent updates. I've been doing some research, but I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed and I have a few concerns, especially regarding software compatibility. I use several apps daily, including Google Chrome, Discord, Clip Studio Paint, Microsoft Office (although I've heard Mint comes with LibreOffice), Visual Studio Code, Live2D Cubism, OBS, Spotify, Zoom, and Steam. I've heard that some of these might work well on Linux while others may require Wine or alternatives. My biggest worry is losing my files during the transition since this laptop has a lot of personal data. I'd love to hear any insights or advice from those who have made the switch, especially regarding software compatibility or any tips for a newbie like me! Thanks a lot for your help!

Hey! Most of those apps should work well on Linux, and many have native versions. For instance, you can definitely use Google Chrome and Discord without a hitch. As for Clip Studio Paint, there are some discussions on getting it to work via Wine, but you might want to try Krita as an alternative since it's compatible with Linux and works pretty great for digital art. Also, Huion tablets now have official Linux drivers, so you should be in good shape there! Regarding antivirus, Linux is generally safe because most viruses target Windows. Just ensure you get software from trusted sources, and you'll likely be fine. Zoom can work in a browser, but I suggest using Chromium for the best experience. Steam is also great on Linux—Proton helps run many Windows games smoothly.

Thanks for the reassurance! It's nice to know that most of what I need should work. I'll also look into Krita if I can't get CSP working—just don't want to lose my setup!
