Hey everyone! I'm considering setting up a monitoring wall for our Sys Admin and Network monitoring tasks. It would focus on tracking various elements like online services (e.g., Microsoft and other external app outages), ISP link statuses, server uptime/downtime, and KPIs from our ticketing systems. I'm looking for recommendations on what applications would work best for this setup. What do you think?

In my opinion, creating a monitoring wall is a potential waste of resources. It's often a money pit that doesn't achieve much satisfaction for anyone. You might be better off focusing on more effective alert systems through text or email notifications that truly provide value.
Honestly, I tried setting up a similar wall before with multiple 55" monitors displaying the same data. It became more of a hassle than it was worth. It's better to have a system that alerts you for actionable insights rather than fluff. You could use one solid monitoring solution and customize your dashboard for the KPIs you need instead of spreading resources thin on multiple displays.
Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really insightful.
I’d definitely be interested in that setup! I started exploring CheckMK, but the onboarding process can be pretty time-consuming for the configurations in the free version.
We set up a WUG map on a 55 inch TV in our office, and it's been fantastic! The execs love it and it effectively showcases our performance, so it's been a good investment for us.
I've come across a ton of tools for infrastructure monitoring lately. What have you found in your searches? It seems like there are plenty of options, each boasting different features and it's hard to choose just one!
Yeah, tools like Checkmk, Prometheus+Grafana, and Zabbix have been recommended a lot, but testing each one takes time I just don't have right now.

I still see value in having real-time visual alerts. If a customer reports internet issues, a quick glance at the wall could show if their link is up or down.
