Thoughts on My PC Build with 5080 and 9800X3D?

I've been researching my PC build extensively and I think I've put together something solid. I'm planning to use it for both gaming and work, which is why I've chosen 64GB of RAM. However, I'm second-guessing myself about the motherboard; I'm not planning on overclocking, so I wonder if it might be overkill. Here's my current PCPartPicker list: [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xvsmJn](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xvsmJn) (prices adjusted for local availability). The main components are an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Deepcool CPU cooler, a Gigabyte motherboard, 64GB Corsair RAM, a couple of WD HDDs, a Samsung NVMe SSD, a Gigabyte RTX 5080 graphics card, and a Deepcool case with a high-quality power supply. Would love any feedback or suggestions!

Hey! First off, your build looks solid! The 64GB of RAM is a smart choice, especially if you're running RAM-intensive applications like multiple browser tabs and Photoshop. With your workload, you'll definitely benefit from that. Speaking of the CPU, have you considered a 9950X3D instead of the 9800X3D? It might save you some cash and perform really well for tasks like compilation, although you might lose a bit in gaming. Just a thought!

I hear you on the RAM. I went from 16GB to 32GB, and it made a huge difference for multitasking! Sounds like 64GB is a good call for your needs. As for the CPU, if gaming is a priority, the 9800 has great performance, so you’re probably good there!

For the SSD, I'd say consider the WD SN850X if you can find it; it's often priced better and performs similarly. However, if the 990 Pro is part of a package deal for you, it’s still a decent option. I wouldn't stress too much about having the absolute fastest drive unless you constantly push the limits on load times. But do keep an eye on firmware issues!

Thanks, that’s good advice! I wanted to go with the 990 Pro because of my good experiences with their drives, but you're right about being cautious of firmware issues. I'll check for the WD SN850X at other retailers!
