Thoughts on Using Veeam Backup for Office 365?

I'm in the process of migrating to Office 365 and Exchange Online for around 180 users. Right now, I use a local Veeam backup solution for my servers and VMs, with backups going to a remote office and to Backblaze. I'm looking for backup and restore solutions specifically for Outlook mailboxes and wanted to get some opinions on using Veeam for this purpose. I would like to keep things simple by using Backblaze for storage and setting up a new repository for the Office 365 backups. Is that something I can do?

We utilize Veeam to back up our Exchange mailboxes. Are you thinking of backing up to local storage or using a cloud S3 bucket for this?

I’d like to do both, sticking to my existing backup strategy of local, offsite, and Backblaze B2. Not completely sure if Veeam allows that, but an S3 bucket could be quicker and more cost-effective.

I discovered that Veeam Backup & Replication can actually back up Entra, so that's a plus! Additionally, if you're using Mimecast for your email security gateway, they also offer Exchange Online backups. Hope that helps someone out there!

For straightforward billing, you might want to skip the on-prem VB365 software and go for Veeam’s hosted service - Veeam Data Cloud. It can protect M365 and Entra ID, plus it offers other features.

That's what we're using, and it’s great! Unlimited storage and retention with a clear, predictable pricing model makes it easy on the budget.

I looked into that too, and it seems much quicker for backup and restore tasks rather than dealing with downloads locally. Have you done a mailbox restore? How did that go?
