I'm planning to bring my MicroATX PC on an international flight from the US to India. I thought about carrying it on, but I'm worried it'll exceed the weight limit. I've seen advice suggesting I dismantle it and leave the case and power supply behind, but that doesn't sound great. Since I'm allowed two suitcases, can I pack my PC in one of them with lots of padding to protect it? Any tips would be appreciated!

For my trip, I removed the GPU, placed it in its own box, and checked the case with the original packaging in a suitcase. It worked out great, no issues at all!
When I did this, I used the original box with all the foam padding, packed it in my suitcase with clothes around it to keep it cushioned. It survived a 17-hour flight and worked perfectly upon arrival! Just make sure everything is well protected.
Honestly, I just packed my PC in my backpack and walked through security without any issues. It was a breeze! But be careful with the weight limit – it's usually around 8-10 kg for carry-ons, and parts like the PSU might get flagged by security, so keep that in mind.
I had no trouble carrying my PC through security as is – I kept it assembled since it added stability and made it easy to explain what it was if anyone asked. Just be ready to demonstrate it if needed!
