Hey everyone! I'm a software engineer who's been using Windows for my entire life and I'm ready to make the switch to Linux permanently. I'm complete newbie when it comes to Linux, and I'm looking for your guidance. After some research, I think Fedora might be a good starting point for me. Here's what I'm looking for in a distro:
- Ability to play some older titles from Steam, though I might stick with Windows for gaming if it's not feasible.
- A stable system that's reliable for daily use.
- A fast system, as my hardware is about three years old.
- Customization options are important to me.
Ideally, I want to use Linux exclusively without needing to rely on Windows anymore. I'd appreciate any tips or advice you all can share! Thanks in advance and have a great day!

Welcome aboard! I've been using Linux for over a decade and there's plenty to love. Fedora is great, but I've heard openSUSE can be nice, too. Be sure to check it out!
As someone who recently switched, I tried Fedora, but I had issues with WiFi. I switched to Mint, and it just works for me. If gaming is your main concern, you might want to ensure your titles are compatible with Linux first.
Most single-player games on Steam should work well on Linux. Just keep in mind that Fedora tends to have a shorter release cycle, but stability-wise, it’s pretty solid.
Honestly, if you like Fedora, just go for it! Most modern distros will fit your needs well. Welcome to the Linux world!
Thank you! I'm going to give Fedora a try today!
Good news! Almost all Steam games now run on Linux without much hassle. But it's true; you might need to mess around a bit with older titles, similar to Windows.
That’s great to know! I’m excited to get started!
Awesome, thanks for the tip! I'll consider openSUSE!
